Call for Papers: Continuous Submission & Rolling Publication

The Myanmar Analysis Journal, the official publication of the Myanmar Research & Analysis Network (MRAN), invites scholars, field researchers, and policy analysts to submit original research, strategic briefings, and data-driven snapshots.

Unlike traditional volume-based journals, we operate on a Rolling Publication model. In a rapidly evolving political and security landscape, we believe that critical analysis should not be delayed by artificial issue cycles.

Why Submit to a Rolling Publication?

  • Immediate Dissemination: Once your manuscript has successfully cleared peer review and editorial finalization, it is published digitally on our platform immediately.

  • Enhanced Impact: Your research reaches policymakers, humanitarian actors, and fellow scholars while the data is most relevant.

  • Continuous Visibility: Every article receives a standalone launch, ensuring maximum engagement within the scholarly and international community.

Submission & Review Process:

  • Rolling Deadline: Submissions are accepted 365 days a year.

  • Style: Chicago Manual of Style (Author-Date).

  • Open Access: All articles are published under a Creative Commons license, ensuring global accessibility.

  • Safety: We maintain robust pseudonymity and metadata-security protocols for authors in high-risk zones.

Article Submission Guidelines

The Myanmar Analysis Journal (MAJ) welcomes original, evidence-based submissions from researchers, academics, field practitioners, and investigative journalists. We seek analysis that provides deep contextual insight into Myanmar’s security, political, and economic landscape.

1. Editorial Scope

We prioritize submissions that align with our core thematic areas:

  • Geopolitics & Foreign Relations: Regional power dynamics and diplomatic shifts.

  • Conflict Analysis: Tactical and strategic developments in the civil war.

  • Transnational Crime: Narcotics, cyber-scams, and illicit economies.

  • Human Rights: Evidence-based documentation of systemic violations.

  • Historical Context: Archives that inform contemporary crises.

  • Sub-national Governance: The evolution of administrative structures in non-state-controlled areas.

  • Economic Resilience: Mechanisms of informal trade and community-led economic survival.

  • Security Architectures: Deep dives into frontline tactical shifts and ethnic armed organization (EAO) strategies.

  • Digital Frontlines: The intersection of technology, surveillance, and information warfare in Myanmar.

2. Submission Categories

  • Analytical Briefings (800 – 1,200 words): Concise responses to current events or emerging trends.

  • In-Depth Reports (2,500 – 5,000+ words): Comprehensive research papers featuring data sets, mapping, or primary field research.

  • Commentary (1,000 words): Expert-led perspective pieces on policy and strategy.

  • OSINT/Data Snapshot: Visual data or map-based report.

3. Content Standards

To maintain our "Analytica" standard, all submissions must adhere to:

  • Evidence-Based Claims: Every major assertion must be supported by a citation, satellite imagery, or corroborated field testimony.

  • Objective Tone: We do not publish activist manifestos. Language must be analytical, dispassionate, and focused on strategic implications.

  • Originality: We do not accept articles that have been published elsewhere, including on personal blogs or social media.

4. Safety & Anonymity

Given the security environment in Myanmar, we recognize the need for contributor protection:

  • Pseudonyms: Authors may write under a pen name. However, the editorial board must know the author's true identity for vetting purposes.

  • Metadata Stripping: MAJ will strip all EXIF and digital metadata from any images or documents provided by the author before publication.

5. How to Submit

To ensure the security of your communication and the integrity of your work, please follow this protocol:

  • Initial Query: Send a 200-word abstract of your proposed article to our editorial team.

  • Formatting: Submissions should be in .docx or .pdf format. Use the Chicago Manual of Style for citations.
